Ellis Maddox left his estate to his wife Mary, and after her demise to his stepson Charles Foster as described below.

In the name of God, amen. I Ellis Maddox of the county of Bullitt and state of Kentucky being sick and weak in body, but of sound mind and disposing memory, and calling to mind the uncertainty of human life, and being desirous to dispose of all such worldly estate as it has pleased God to bless me with, I give and bequeath the same as follows to wit.
After my decease, I wish my body buried in a decent and Christian-like burial, and all my just debts paid.
Item 1st. I give and bequeath to my wife, Mary, all my estate, both real and personal during her natural life, which estate is to remain in the hands of my executor to be here after named for her support and benefit.
Item 2nd. After my wife's decease, I bequeath to my stepson Charles Foster all my estate, both real and personal, which may remain in hand at the time of my said wife's death.
Item 3rd. I bequeath to my step son James Foster one bed and furniture. I also bequeath to my step son Charles one bed and sufficient clothing for the same, which beds and furniture my said step sons are to have at any time they may call for the same.
And lastly I do hereby appoint my step son Charles Foster executor of this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all other or former wills or testaments by me heretofore made. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 29th day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty one. (signed) Ellis Maddox.

State of Kentucky, Bullitt Count, to wit. I Noah C. Summers, clerk of the county court for the county aforesaid, certify that the foregoing last will and testament of Ellis Maddox, deceased, was produced in open court on the 17th day of July 1843, and proved by the oaths of James Samuels and William H. Samuels, two subscribing witnesses thereto, to be the true last will and testament of Ellis Maddox, deceased, and as such, fully approved, was ordered by said court to be recorded. Whereupon I have truly recorded the same and this certificate in my said office. Teste. Noah C. Summers, County Court Clerk
