1920 Bullitt County Voting Precincts

The following is a detailed description of the voting precincts established by Bullitt County for the 1920 November election, as recorded in the County Court Order Book, and printed in the Pioneer News. We have attempted to faithfully transcribe this description as printed, but errors may have crept in.


Regular Term Bullitt County Court Held on the 13th Day of September, 1920

Present Hon. C. P. Bradbury, Judge

Came C. E. Rogers, J. R. Zimmerman and J. F. Combs and filed a report in writing, dividing the magisterial districts of Bullitt County into voting precincts, and the Court having carefully examined said report and being sufficiently advised, said report is confirmed and now adopted as the act of the Court, and voting precincts and the places of voting in Bullitt County are established as follows:

SHEPHERDSVILLE MAGISTERIAL DISTRICT, we divided as follows:

PRECINCT NO. 1.

Beginning at the bridge across Salt River at the foot of Main Street in Shepherdsville; thence down Salt River to the Ferry Landing on the Hardy Place; thence in a northerly course with the road to the County road leading to Shepherdsville; thence with said road coming down the Dug Hill; thence up the road leading up Dug Hill on the East side thereof to a stake across from the Framan blacksmith shop; thence in a straight line to the southwest corner of the Moore Dower tract (now owned by Simmons Heirs) thence down to the Southwest corner of the Caswell and Joyce land in the bottom; thence in a straight line to a point on top of the hill in the County road, 150 yards West of the entrance gate to J. T. Martin's house; thence in a straight line to the Southwest corner of the Simmons land called the Nagle place; thence to C. L. Samuel's place around said place on the Western side of it and the Western side of the other Simmons land to the line of the land of S. F. Barral; thence with the line of Simmons and Barrall to the Brook's Station Road; thence to the Southwest corner of J. W. Watson's place (now owned by Tony Matthews) and around the South side thereof, and in an Easterly course to the County road leading from Huber's to Brook's Stations, on the West side of the railroad; thence with said road around to the railroad crossing, North of Huber's Station; thence South with the railroad to the bridge at the Gap in the Knob; thence with the Louisville and Shepherdsville Turnpike and Main Street to the bridge at the foot of Main Street, in Shepherdsville.

PRECINCT NO. 2.

Beginning at Salt River Bridge, at the foot of Main Street in Shepherdsville; thence up the river to the point where the Eastern line of the land of W. L. Jones strikes the river; thence with his eastern line, in a northerly course and with the line of the land of Mrs. Sidney Newton, to a point near Pleasant Grove Church on the north side of the road leading from Shepherdsville to Mt. Washington; thence with the North side of said road in an Easterly course to the road leading to Bell's Mill; thence with the West side of the Bell's Mill road to the turn in the road opposite the house of Charles Stallings; thence in a Northerly course, across the Hecker Place and the Balee place, in a straight line in Floyd's Fork; thence down Floyd's Fork to the Bridge across said stream; thence in a Westerly course with said road to the Junction of said road and the Louisville and Shepherdsville Turnpike; thence in a straight line in a Westerly course to Brook's Run; thence in a Southwesterly course to a point on the Blue Lick Turnpike, 35 feet South of the Cabin on the Silas Summers place; thence North with Blue Lick Pike, to the road leading to Huber's Station; thence with said road to the railroad crossing North of Huber's Station; thence with Rail Road south to the bridge at Gap in Knob; thence with the turnpike to the bridge across Salt River at the foot of Main Street in Shepherdsville.

The voting place in Precinct No. 2 shall be in Shepherdsville on the East side of Main Street. The name of this Precinct shall be Shepherdsville East.

PRECINCT NO. 3

Beginning where the poplar tree stood at the Junction of Bell's Mill road and Preston Street Pike; thence to Brook's Run; thence up Brook's Run until it strikes the land of S. N. Brooks; thence in a straight line to the lane running in front of the S. D. Brooks dwelling (now owned by W. R. Strange), thence with said lane and a straight line extended therefrom to the Merhoff land; thence with the line of the Merhoff place around the West side and around the West side of the Tom Bell place and the Frank Bell place to the Jefferson County line; thence in a Westerly course with the Jefferson County line until it comes to the point where the line of Henry Paulley crosses the County line; thence with his line to the Northeast corner of the Travis place; thence with the line between the Travis and Paulley places, to the Beghtol land; thence around, with the western line of said place, to the Northeast corner of the Henry Samuel's place; thence around the Western lines thereof, to the Monroe land; thence around the East side of the Monroe place to the land of Tom Colvin; thence around the West side of the Colvin land, to the corner of the land of S. F. Barrall, around the West side of his land to the line between Simmons and Barrall; thence with their line to the County Road; thence with the County Road, in a northeasterly course to the Barrall Barbecue Ground; thence in a straight line to the Southwest corner of the J. W. Watson place (now owned by Tony Matthews) and around the South side of same and in a straight line to the County Road leading from Hubers to Brooks Stations, on the West side of the Railroad; thence with said road around to the Railroad crossing north of Hubers Station; thence with the County Road, in an Easterly course to the Blue Lick Turnpike; thence in a Southerly course with the Blue Lick Turnpike, to a point 25 feet South of the cabin of Silas Summers place; thence in a straight line to the place of beginning at the poplar tree.

The voting place in Precinct No. 3 shall be at Brook's Station. The name of this Precinct shall be Brooks.

PRECINCT NO. 4.

Beginning at the Ferry Landing, on the Hardy place; thence in a Northerly course to the County road leading to Shepherdsville; thence with said road to the foot of Dug Hill; thence up said Hill with the Eastern side of the road leading to Mt. Eden to a stake opposite Froman's Blacksmith Shop; thence down the Hill in a Northeasterly course to the South-west corner of the Moore Dower tract (now owned by the Simmon's heirs) thence with the West line of said place, and on to the James Caswell place; thence around the West side of said place at the corner of the Caswell and the Joyce place, in the bottom; then in a straight line, to a point on County Road 100 yards West of Entrance gate to the residence of J. T. Martin; thence in a North-easterly course to the South-west corner of the Simmons land, called the Nagle place; thence in a straight line to the point where the line between Eugene Hardin and R. P. Sharp (Harshfield place) strikes the County Road; thence with their line as far as it extends; thence across the line between Richard Moore and Key place; thence with said line, as far as it extends; thence to a point on the road leading down the Dunaway Hill, 100 yards distant from the main road; thence South with the Dunaway Road to the Cupio road, and South to the main road; thence with the main road to the cross roads near Highland School House; thence in a straight line to the mouth of Cedar Point branch; thence up Salt River to the beginning.

The voting place in precinct No. 4 shall be at Kelly's store and shall be called Griffin.

PRECINCT NO. 5.

Beginning at the mouth of Cedar Point branch on Salt River; thence down the River to Pond Creek; thence up Pond Creek to Brier Creek; thence up said creek and the line between Jefferson and Bullitt Counties to the point where the line of Henry Paulley's place crosses the County Line; thence with his line to the Northeast corner of the Travis place and with the line between the Travis place and Paulley to the Beghtol place; thence with the lines of the Beghtol land around the Western line thereof, to the North-east corner of the Henry Samuel's place; thence around the West side of said place to the Monroe place and around the East side of said place to the land of Tom Colvin; thence around the West side of Colvin's land to the land of S. F. Barrall, and around the West line of the G. W. Simmons land and the land of C. L. Samuels and around the West side of another tract of G. W. Simmons (called the Nagle place) and to the Southwest corner thereof; thence in a straight line to the point where the line between R. P. Sharp (Harshfield place) and Eugene Hardin strikes the County road; thence in a South-westerly course with said line, as far as it extends; thence in a straight line to the line between Richard Moore and the Key place, and as far as it extends; thence same course to a point on the road leading down the Dunaway Hill, 100 yards distant from the forks of the road, at Weeden Funk's house; thence South to the main road; thence with said road in a Westerly course to the cross roads near Highland School House; thence in a straight line to the mouth of Cedar Point branch to the place of beginning.

The voting place of Precinct No. 5 shall be at J. D. Moore's Store and shall be called Cupio.

PRECINCT NO. 6.

Beginning at the bridge across Salt River at Shepherdsville; thence down the river to the mouth of Long Lick Creek; thence up said Creek to the line between John Conniff and Frank Magruder; thence with their line as far as extends, in a northeasterly course; thence to the G. T. Mathis place (now owned by H. K. Shaw) and around the south side of same; thence with same course to the old Daniel place (now owned by Joe Funk) and around with the south boundary line of said place to Cedar Creek; thence down Cedar Creek to Salt River; thence down Salt River to the place of beginning.

The voting place of precinct No. 6 shall be Salt River and shall be named Salt River precinct.

MT. WASHINGTON MAGISTERIAL DISTRICT.

PRECINCT NO. 7.

Beginning at the bridge across Salt River, at Smithville, thence up Salt River to the Spencer County line; thence with the line between Spencer and Bullitt Counties to the Jefferson County line; thence with the line between Jefferson and Bullitt to Floyd's Fork to the ford of the Motherhead place; thence following the road leading to Mt. Washington until it strikes the Bardstown and Louisville turnpike, at Fox's shop; thence with the turnpike through Mt. Washington, to the place of beginning.

The voting place in Precinct No. 7 shall be in Mt. Washington on the east side of Bardstown and Louisville turnpike. This precinct shall be named Mt. Washington East.

PRECINCT NO. 8.

Beginning at the bridge across Salt River at Smithville, thence down Salt River to the eastern line of the land owned by W. L. Jones; thence with same in a northerly course, with his eastern line and with the eastern line of the land of Mrs. Sidney Newton, to a point near Pleasant Grove Church, on the north side of the county road leading from Shepherdsville to Mt. Washington; thence with the north side of said road to the road leading to Bell's Mill; thence with the said road to the bend opposite the house of Charles Stallings; thence in a straight line across the Hecker Place and the Balee place to Floyd's Fork; thence up Floyd's Fork on the Mothershead place; thence with the road leading to Mt. Washington to the Bardstown and Louisville Turnpike, in front of Fox's shop; thence through Mt. Washington with the turnpike to the place of beginning, the bridge at Smithville.

The voting place in Precinct No. 8 shall be in Mt. Washington on the west side of the Bardstown and Louisville turnpike. this precinct shall be named Mt. Washington West.

PRECINCT NO. 9.

Beginning at the junction of Bell's Mill road and the Louisville and Shepherdsville turnpike, where the Poplar tree formerly stood; thence in a northwesterly course to Brook's Run; thence up Brook's Run until it strikes the line of the land of S. N. Brooks; thence in a northeasterly course until it strikes the land running in front of S. D. Brook's house (now owned by W. R. Strange); thence with said lane, in a northerly course, and a straight line extended therefrom to the Merhoff place; thence with his line and around the west side of said place and the Tom Bell place and the Frank Bell place, to the Jefferson County line; thence with the Jefferson County line to Floyd's Fork; thence down Floyd's Fork to the bridge at Bell's Mill; thence in a westerly course, with the County Road, to the place of beginning.

The voting place in Precinct No. 9 shall be at Miller's Store, and shall be named Zoneton.

LEACHES MAGISTERIAL DISTRICT

PRECINCT NO. 10.

Beginning on Salt River where the east line of the Conley place (now owned by Alley Greenwell) strikes the river; thence with his line to the County Road, near Victory schoolhouse; thence in a southerly course passing the schoolhouse to the land of James Roby, and around the East side of his place to W. W. James place thence around East side of said place to the James Harmon place; thence around the East side of said place and out to the County road leading to Shepherdsville; thence down said road to Fancy and the James Ash place; thence around the East side of it and on to the place of Catherine Roby and around the East side of it, and on to the Sim Roby place; and around the East side of it to the William Simmons place and around to East side of it to the Jack Simmons land and around the East side of it to the William shaw place and the Ratliff place and around the East side of it to the J. V. Crenshaw place and around the East side of it thence to the Magruder place (now owned by Wm. Shaw) and around the East side of it to the Branch near Extine Norton University; thence down said branch to West Fork; thence with the same to the railroad; thence with the railroad to the West line of Stoner place (now owned by Kindred); thence in a northerly couse to the South-west corner of Sam Greenwell place and around the West side of his place in a Westerly course as far as its runs; thence a straight line to the old Shirley place (now owned by Mann); thence around the South side of it and in a straight line to the South-east corner of the old Deacon place (now owned by Elijah Boyd); thence around the South side of his place to Cedar Creek; thence down Cedar Creek to Salt River; thence up Salt River to the place of beginning.

The voting place in Precinct No. 10 shall be at or near John Bolton's residence, and shall be named Cedar Grove.

PRECINCT NO. 11.

Beginning on Salt River, where the old Conley place (now owned by Alley Greenwell) strikes the river; thence with the County road near Victory schoolhouse; thence passing said schoolhouse in a Southerly course to the lands of James Roby, and around the East side of his place to the W. W. James place and around the East side of said place to the James Crenshaw place; and around the West side of his place to the John Harmon place and around the East side of the Harmon place and out to the Shepherdsville road; thence down the road to Fancy and to James Ash's place and around the East side thereof to the place of George Roby and around the East side of it to the land of Catherine Roby, and around the East side of it to the place of Sim Roby, and around the East side of his place to the William Simmons place and around the East side of it, and the Jack Simmons place and around the East side of it and the Jack Simmons land and the William Shaw place and the J. V. Crenshaw place to the Magruder place (now owned by William Shaw); thence around the East side of it to the branch at the foot of the hill near Extine Norton University; thence down said branch to West Fork, and to the Nelson County line; thence in a North-easterly course with the Nelson County line and the line of Spencer County to Salt River; thence down Salt River to the place of beginning.

The voting place in Precinct 11 shall be at or near A. L. Harris' store at Solitude and shall be named Leaches.

PRECINCT NO. 12.

Beginning at the railroad bridge across Long Lick Creek, south of Bardstown Junction; thence up the Creek to the line between Frank Magruder and John Conniff; thence with their line as far as it extends in a North-easterly course; thence same course to the G. T. Mathis place (now owned by H. K. Shaw) and around the South side of it; thence same cours to the South-west corner of the old Daniel's place (now owned by Joe Funk); thence around the South line of said place to Cedar Creek; thence up this Creek to the South line of the old Deacon place (now owned by E. Boyd); thence around the South line of said place in an Easterly course as far as it extends; thence to the South-west corner of the old Sherley place (now owned by Mann); thence around the South side of said place as far as it extends; thence in a straight line to the Northwest corner of the Samuel Greenwell place; thence around the West side of his place to his Southwest corner; thence in Southerly course to the point nears Lotus where the West line of the Stoner plance (now owned by Kindred) strikes the Bardstown Railroad; thence East with the same to West Fork; thence with same to the Nelson County line; thence in a South-westerly course, with the Nelson County line until it strikes Wilson's Creek; thence down said creek to the mouth of Hart's Run; thence in a straight line in a Northwesterly course to the Northeast corner of the land of L. T. Mudd; thence with his North line to the Belmont road; thence with said road leading toward Bardstown Junction, to the railroad crossing; thence with the railroad to the place of beginning.

The voting place in Precinct No. 12 shall be at Clermont and shall be named Clermont Precinct.

PINE TAVERN MAGISTERIAL DISTRICT

PRECINCT NO. 13.

Beginning at the bridge across Rolling Fork, on the main stem of the L. & N. Railroad; thence up Rolling Fork to the mouth of Wilson's Creek; thence up Wilson's Creek to the mouth of Hart's Run; thence in a Southwesterly course to the land of D. Bumgardner and around the South side of his lands and thence on to the Northeast corner of the William Masden place, on Cane Run; thence around the North side of it and to the Boston road; thence with the Boston road to the Junction with the Lebanon Junction Road, South of the old Pine Tavern; thence in a straight line to the C. A. Walker place, and around the South side thereof; thence to Wm. Welch's place to the L. & N. Railroad; thence South with the main stem of the L. & N. Railroad to the bridge across Rolling Fork.

The voting place in Precinct No. 13, shall be in Lebanon Junction on the East side of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad. It shall be named Lebanon Junction East.

PRECINCT NO. 14.

Beginning at the bridge across Rolling Fork, on the main stem of the L. & N. Railroad; thence down Rolling Fork to Hart's Ferry; thence with the road leading to Belmont, to the road leading to Lebanon Junction; thence with the last named road to Brashear's Ford at Crooked Creek; thence up Crooked Creek to the North line of the land of Marsh Stark, and with his line to the L. & N. Railroad; thence South with said Railroad to the bridge across Rolling Fork.

The voting place in precinct No. 14 shall be in Lebanon Junction on the West side of the L. & N. Railroad, and shall be named Lebanon Junction West.

PRECINCT NO. 15.

Beginning at the railroad bridge South of Bardstown Junction; thence South to the County Road crossing; thence with the County road leading to Belmont to the point where the land of L. T. Mudd strikes the County road; thence with the north line of his land as far as it extends; thence in a straight line to the mouth of Hart's Run, on Wilson's Creek; thence in a Southwesterly course to the land of Davis Bumgardner; thence around the South side of his lands; and thence to the Ridge place and around the North side of it and on the Northeast corner of the William Masden place, on Cane Run; thence around the North side of his place to the Boston road, and with said road to a point South of the old Pine Tavern, on the County road leading from Shepherdsville to Lebanon Junction; thence in a straight course to the C. A. Welker place; thence around the South side of the Welch Place to the L. & N. Railroad; thence North with the Railroad to the North line of Marsh Stark's place; thence with his North line to Crooked Creek; thence down Crooked Creek to the Brashear Ford; thence in Northerly course with said road to the Hart's Ferry Road; thence with said Hart's Ferry road in a Southwestery course to Hart's Ferry, on Rolling Fork to the mouth of Brown's Run; thence up Brown's Run to the land of Robert Dawson; thence around the South side of his place to the land of H. D. Shafer; thence around the South side of his land, on to another tract of Robert Dawson, and around the South side of it to a tract of land owned by Alvin Viers and around the South side of it to the land of Robert foster and around the South side of John Henry Lee's place and around the South side of said place and out to the road on top of the ridge; thence with said road to the Dantric place and around the South side of it as far as it extends; thence in a straight line to Mile Post No. 23, on the L. & N. Railroad thence with the railroad to the place of beginning.

The voting place in Precinct No. 15 shall be at Belmont and it shall be named Belmont Precinct.

PRECINCT NO. 16.

Beginning at the Railroad bridge across Long Lick Creek, south of Bardstown Junction; thence down Long Lick Creek to Salt River; thence down Salt River to the mouth of Rolling Fork; thence up Rolling Fork to the mouth of Brown's Run; thence up said run to the land of Robert Dawson; thence around the South side of his land and to the land of H. D. Shafer and around the South side of his land and on to another tract of land owned by Robert Dawson, and around the South the South side of it and on to a tract of land owned by Alvin Viers and around the South side of it to the land of Robert Foster and around the South side of it and on to the John Henry Lee place and around the South side of it; thence around to the County road on top of the hill; thence with said road to the Dantic Place; thence around the South side of it as far as it extends; thence in a straight line in and Easterly course to Mile Post No. 23 on the Railroad to the place of beginning at the Railroad bridge across Long Lick Creek.

The voting place in Precinct No. 16 shall be at Beech Grove, and it shall be named Beech Grove Precinct.

J. W. Croan, Sheriff of Bullitt County, is ordered to advertise the above described boundaries and places of voting of said precincts for at least 30 days prior to the November Election, 1920 in the Pioneer News and by one printed notice put up at least 30 days prior to said November Election in each precinct in Bullitt County so established.

The clerk of this Court will enter upon the Order Book of this Court the division aforesaid into precincts, and will make an attested copy thereof and deliver same to the Sheriff of Bullitt County.
