Samuel Nichols wrote this will on October 11, and died on the 17th. His wife Mary died two days later.

In the name of God, Amen. I Samuel L. Nichols of the County of Bullitt and State of Kentucky, being weak in body but sound in mind and memory and calling to mind the certainty of death, and wishing to dispose of my worldly estate, wherewith it has pleased God to bless me with, do constitute and ordain this to be my last will and testament, revoking all other wills made by me.
And first after my death I desire that I may be interred in a Christian like manner, and after my funeral expenses and all just debts be paid.
I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Mary the farm whereon I now live, together with all the live stock, horses, cattle, hogs, and sheep and household and kitchen furniture and grain of all kinds that I possess at my death so long as her natural life, or as she continues to be my widow, and after that to be divided equally between my children and also all the money and bonds that is due me; and last of all I do appoint James Arnold my executor of this will.
Given under my hand this 11th day of October 1842. Signed in the presense of us.

State of Kentucky, Bullitt County, to wit. I Noah C. Summers, clerk of the county court for said county, do hereby certify that the foregoing last will and testament of Samuel L. Nichols was produced in open court by the executor therein named on the twenty first day of November, eighteen hundred and forty two, and proved by the oaths William McAhron and Owen Goldsmith, the two subscribing witnesses thereto to be the true last will and testament of said Samuel L. Nichols, and as such fully proved was ordered to be recorded. Whereupon I have this twenty fourth day of November, eighteen hundred and forty two, truly recorded the same together with this certificate in my said office. Attest. N. C. Summers, clerk
