Friends of the Bullitt County History Museum E-Newsletter
August 28, 2007, (Volume 3, Number 10)

This brief edition of our E-News is for several Special Announcements

>> Our very own web site is now functional !!

Since we began the museum, we have dreamed of having our own web site, and now, thanks to Friend Charles Hartley, we have it!

Over the past month or more, as Betty Hartley was at the museum restoring a model for display, Charles stayed around and offered to develop a site for us. He and I have been gathering info, and preparing the text and layout.

Charles has had his own web site since, well, since there WAS such a thing I suppose, so it was a real gift to have such a knowledgeable person develop it for us. He even added his own large electronic collection of county history.

This announcement tells you about the web site before anyone else...before we have announced it to the press, and even before it has been found by Google (that will probably happen in a few more days).

I think it looks darn good too! We have a LOT of county history, info about the Bullitt County Genealogical Society, all past newsletters, info on cemetery preservation and law, and LOTS more. AND we are still adding stuff! Once Google finds the site in its automatic sweep, you will even be able to text search the entire site. Take note that a lot of things can be accessed just by clicking on text...(notice when it highlights).

Check out our shiny new web site (I'm so proud!) at www.BullittCountyHistory.org and let us know what you think. (By the way, there are special comment boxes on the site as well.)

>>Announcement Two: 1917 Train Wreck book now available.

Thanks again to Charles Hartley, we finally have a long-overdue booklet about the 1917 Train Wreck that I have written so often about. Charles has deeply researched and compiled information about the deadly Christmastime wreck, and put the information together in an informative, yet personally touching, way. While doing so, he resolved a number of previously conflicting stories and filled in some unknown facts.

He has generously given us permission to publish the 44-page booklet and sell it with absolutely no payment to him.

That allows us to sell this little gem of a book at very low cost. The booklet can be bought at the museum for five dollars, or mailed for seven.

It is an inexpensive, yet important addition to any collection of Bullitt County or railroad history.

>>Announcement Three: Anybody read German?

Friend and volunteer Bob Cline has come across a very nice addition to his Crigler family genealogy research in a rather extensive genealogy book.. The problem is that a good portion of it is in German. He is hoping to find someone that will help him translate key portions of it. If anyone can help, please contact him at wirenet1@alltel.net.

>>Announcement Three: New security system at museum.

Starting sometime this week the courthouse building will finish installing a new security system throughout the building, including our museum rooms.

So museum Volunteers watch out! Do not open our rooms until I give you an access code.

>> Announcement Four: Museum Closed September 3 for holiday.

The Bullitt County Courthouse, and therefore our museum, will be closed September 3 for the Labor Day holiday.

That's all for now folks. Watch for future newsletters and come by and visit us sometime at the museum.

Thank you for being a Friend of Bullitt County History.
