It appears that Wilhite Carpenter had an arrangement with the railroad concerning its passage across his land, and particularly regarding the maintenance of fences along the railroad between Carpenter's depot and James Moore's property. The agreement is transcribed below.

Louisville, December 1, 1860
At a meeting of the Board held as above, upon consideration of the contract of W. Carpenter and his proposition about the fences, resolved that the proposition to construct the fence from his depot to Moore's and agreeing to keep it up, that the same be taken in payment of his stock to the amount of $375. A true copy from the record book, December 18th 1860. Attest. Willis Ranney, Secretary.
In consideration of the above resolution and the credit of $375 on my stock subscription of five shares to the L. & N. R. R. Co. I have constructed a fence from my depot to connect with Moore's land on both sides of the route of the R.R. and agree to keep up the same in good repair for all future time. As witness my hand and seal this 24th day of December 1860. (signed) W. Carpenter.
State of Kentucky, Bullitt County Sct. I Robert F. Samuels, clerk of the county court for the county aforesaid, do certify that on the 24th day of December 1860 the foregoing deed was produced to me in my office and acknowledged by W. Carpenter to be his act and deed. Whereupon the same was ordered to be recorded which together with this certificate is truly done in my said office this 4th day of January 1861. (signed) R. F.
