Henry Oldham Maraman to Wilhite Carpenter - 8 Acres

This deed, written on 20 Dec 1860, transferred 8 acres of land on the south side of Salt River near Shepherdsville from H. O. Maraman to Wilhite Carpenter.

This indenture made this 20th day of December 1860 between Henry O Maraman of the County of Bullitt and State of Kentucky of the first part and Wilhite Carpenter of the County of Bullitt and State aforesaid of the second part. Witnesseth that the said party of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of $160 in hand paid, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged as paid by the party of the second part to the party of the first part, for which party of first part to party of second part, doth, grant, bargain, sell and convey and confirm unto the said party of the second part, his heirs and assigns forever all the following described pieces or parcels of land on the south side of Salt River, and bounded as follows, to wit.

Beginning at a drain where the Bardstown Road and Elizabethtown intersects and thence North 85° E 34 poles, 11 links to a stake or stone, thence North 8 1/2° West 51 poles, 7 links to a branch and division line between said parties, thence up said branch with its meanders South 70° W 14 poles, S 37° W 9 poles, S 16° W 16 poles, S 75° W 11 1/2 poles, S 6° E 22 poles to the beginning, containing eight acres, together with all its appurtenances, rights and improvements thereunto belonging.

To have, and to hold the above described premises with all its improvements, and appurtenances to the same belonging to the said party of the second part, his heirs and assigns forever, and the said party of the first part for himself, and his heirs doth hereby covenant, with the party of the second part that he is lawfully, seized in fee of the premises, aforesaid, and have a good right, full power and lawful authority to sell, and convey the same in manner aforesaid, and that he will forever warrant and defend the same and the quiet and peaceable possession of thereof together with all the appurtenances to the same belonging or appertaining unto the said Wilhite Carpenter, his heirs and assigns against the lawful claim or claims of all persons whomsoever. In witness the said Henry O. Maraman and Elmira his wife who hereby relinquishes her right of dower to the above described premises have hereunto set their hands and seals this day and date above written. (signed) H. O. State of Kentucky, Bullitt County, Sct. I Robert F. Samuels, clerk of the County Court for the County aforesaid, do certify that on the 22nd day of December 1860 the foregoing deed was produced to me in my office and acknowledged by the said Henry O. Maraman to be his act and deed, and on the 25th day of November 1862 by Elmira Maraman his wife to be her act and deed. Whereupon the same was ordered to be recorded, which together with this certificate is truly done in my said office this 29th day of May 1861. (signed) R. F. Samuels, Clerk, by J. W.
