Clement McDaniel's 300 Acre Tract

On 31 Aug 1793, Samuel Smyth surveyed 300 acres for Clement McDaniel along Crooked Creek in what was then Nelson County. This tract would soon be encircled by a patent of 4,221 acres granted to Matthew Walton. Clement then sold the 300 acres to Colley McDaniel in 1797.


Survey

Surveyed for Clement McDaniel 300 acres of land in Nelson County by virtue of a treasury warrant No. 679 on Crooked Creek, a branch of the Rolling Fork of Salt River. Beginning at two beech trees near the foot of the knobs on the south side of said creek, running thence N 25° W 200 poles to a beech, ash and dogwood, thence S 65° W 240 poles to two beech trees, thence S 25° E 200 poles to two white oaks, thence N 65° E 240 poles to the beginning. Deed

James Garrard Esquire, Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky to all to whom these presents shall come, greeting. Know ye that by virtue and in consideration of a land office treasury warrant No. 679 there is granted by the said Commonwealth unto Clement McDaniel a certain tract or parcel of land containing 300 acres by survey bearing date the 31st day of August 1793, lying and being in Nelson County on Crooked Creek, a branch of the Rolling Fork of Salt River and bounded as follows, to wit.

Beginning at two beech trees near the foot of the knobs on the south side of said creek, running thence N 25° W 200 poles to a beech, ash and dogwood, thence S 65° W 240 poles to two beech trees, thence S 25° E 200 poles to two white oaks, thence N 65° E 240 poles to the beginning with its appurtenances.

To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with its appurtenances to the said Clement McDaniel and his heirs forever. In witness whereof the said James Garrard Esquire, Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, hath hereunto set his hand and caused the seal of the Commonwealth to be affixed at Frankfort on the 22nd day of June in the year of our Lord 1796, and the Commonwealth the fifth.
