On 4 Sep 1802, John Riley sold the northwest half of his 7031.25 acre patent to John Collett. This land lay on the waters of Briar and Knob Creeks in northwestern Bullitt County. He also sold another 781 acres of this patent to Collett, as shown on this drawing.

This indenture made this fourth day of September, 1802 between John Riley of the County of Shelby and Commonwealth of Kentucky of the one part and John Collett of the County and Commonwealth aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the said John Riley for and in consideration of the sum of $1250 specie current money of Kentucky to him in hand paid at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, has granted, bargained, sold, aliened, released, conveyed and confirmed and by these presents doth grant, bargain, sell, alien, release, convey and confirm onto the said John Collett, his heirs and assigns forever, a certain tract or parcel of land, situate lying and being in the County of Jefferson on the waters of Briar and Knob Creek, and being a moiety of a tract of 7031 1/4 acres granted by the Commonwealth of Kentucky to the said John Riley by patent bearing date the 25th day of May 1799, and bounded as follows, to wit.
Beginning at two chestnut oaks and an ash on the top of a ridge, southwest corner of John Collett's 10,000 acre entry, thence with his line South 45° East 625 poles to a stake, thence South 45° West 900 poles to a stake, thence North 45° West 625 poles to a sweet gum, mulberry and poplar, thence North 45° East 900 poles to the beginning, containing the full quantity of 3515 3/4 acres.
To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with all the appurtenances unto the said John Collett, his heirs and assigns to his and their only proper use, benefit and behoof forever, and the said John Riley doth further covenant and agree to and with the said John Collett that he the said John Riley and his heirs, executors and administrators shall and will warrant and forever defend the said tract or parcel of land with the appurtenances unto the said John Collett, his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns against all and every person or persons whatsoever lawfully claiming or to claim the same by, through or under him, his executors, administrators or assigns, but in no other manner or way whatsoever. In witness whereof the said John Riley hath hereunto set his hand and seal on the day and year first written. (signed) John Riley
